SUB-TUUM

We join our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, in invoking the intercession of Mary, Advocate for the People of God, through what might be considered a type of modern Sub Tuum, (Totally Yours).  We implore the Holy Spirit for a "renewed outpouring" of His Divine Mercy upon the faithful and the world today.

O' Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ and Mother of the Church, open our hearts to the great anticipation for the proclamation of the Gospel to the whole of creation and the reign of the Kingdom of God.  Your Mother's Heart is ever mindful of the many dangers and evils which threaten to overpower men and women in our time.  O Mary, full of courage, may your spiritual strength and trust in God inspire us, so that we might know how to overcome the obstacles that we encounter.  Teach us to treat the affairs of the world with a real sense of Christian responsibility and a joyful hope of the coming of God's Kingdom.

O' Mother of Our Divine Savior and Our Mother, who gathered with the Apostles in prayer at the Cenacle, awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we implore you for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all the faithful, so that we, your children, might more generously respond to the Will of your Divine Son and mission of His Church.  O Virgin Mother, guide and sustain us so that we might always live as true sons and daughters of the Church of your Son Jesus Christ.  Enable us to do our part in helping to establish here on earth a civilization of truth and love, as God wills it, and for His Glory.  Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF LOURDES

O' HOLY VIRGIN, in the midst of your days of glory, do not forget the sorrows of this earth.   Cast a merciful glance upon those who are suffering, struggling against difficulties, with their lips constantly pressed against life's bitter cup.

Have pity of those who love each other and are separated.  Have pity on our rebellious hearts.  Have pity on our weak faith.  Have pity on those we love.  Have pity on those who weep, on those who pray, on those who fear.

Grant hope and peace to all.  Amen

PRAYER OF THE ANGEL

MY GOD, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love You, I ask forgiveness for those who do not believe, nor adore, nor hope nor love You.

MOST HOLY TRINITY, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended, and    by the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

The Holy Father prayer at the Bishops' Synod, October 11, 2001

Brothers and Sisters,

Dear Synodal Fathers, one month since the inhumane terrorist attacks which occurred in different parts of the United States of America, we again recommend to the eternal mercy of the God of our Fathers the numerous innocent victims.

We ask for consolation and comfort for their family and relatives, burdened by pain;  we invoke strength and courage for the many who continue their work in the places struck by this terrible disaster; we implore for tenacity and perseverance by all men of goodwill continuing on the paths of justice and peace.

May the Lord remove from the heart of man every trace of resentment, of hostility and of hate, and open him to reconciliation, to solidarity and to peace.

Let us pray so that the "culture of love" may be established all over the world.

O God, Almighty and Merciful,

he who sows discord cannot understand you,

he who loves violence cannot welcome you:

watch over us in our painful human condition

tried by the brutal acts of terrorism and death;

Comfort your children and open our hearts to hope,

that our time may again know days of serenity and peace.

Through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

"COME, HOLY SPIRIT"

Holy Spirit, my Light, my Life, my Love, my Strength, be with me now, and always:

in all my doubts, anxieties and trials,

Come, Holy Spirit;

in hours of loneliness, weariness and grief,

Come, Holy Spirit;

in failure, in loss and in disappointment,

Come, Holy Spirit;

when other fail me, when I fail myself.

Come, Holy Spirit;

when I am ill, unable to work, depressed,

Come, Holy Spirit;

now, and forever, and in all things, "COME, HOLY SPIRIT"

Excerpts from the new Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae

by John Paul II, October 16, 2002

..."The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety, of which it can be said to be a compendium.2 ... With the Rosary, the Christian people sits at the school of Mary and is led to contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience the depths of his love. Through the Rosary the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer." ...

"Worthy of special note in this regard is Pope Leo XIII who on 1 September 1883 promulgated the Encyclical Supremi Apostolatus Officio,3 a document of great worth, the first of his many statements about this prayer, in which he proposed the Rosary as an effective spiritual weapon against the evils afflicting society" ...

"The Rosary belongs among the finest and most praiseworthy traditions of Christian contemplation. Developed in the West, it is a typically meditative prayer, corresponding in some way to the “prayer of the heart” or “Jesus prayer” which took root in the soil of the Christian East." ...

"As a prayer for peace, the Rosary is also, and always has been, a prayer of and for the family. At one time this prayer was particularly dear to Christian families, and it certainly brought them closer together. It is important not to lose this precious inheritance. We need to return to the practice of family prayer and prayer for families, continuing to use the Rosary ... The family that prays together stays together.

"It is also beautiful and fruitful to entrust to this prayer the growth and development of children." ...

"Many signs indicate that still today the Blessed Virgin desires to exercise through this same prayer that maternal concern to which the dying Redeemer entrusted, in the person of the beloved disciple, all the sons and daughters of the Church: “Woman, behold your son!” (Jn19:26). Well-known are the occasions in the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries on which the Mother of Christ made her presence felt and her voice heard, in order to exhort the People of God to this form of contemplative prayer. I would mention in particular, on account of their great influence on the lives of Christians and the authoritative recognition they have received from the Church, the apparitions of Lourdes and of Fatima;11 these shrines continue to be visited by great numbers of pilgrims seeking comfort and hope ..."

..."The contemplation of Christ has an incomparable model in Mary. In a unique way the face of the Son belongs to Mary. It was in her womb that Christ was formed, receiving from her a human resemblance which points to an even greater spiritual closeness. No one has ever devoted himself to the contemplation of the face of Christ as faithfully as Mary." ...

"Mary lived with her eyes fixed on Christ, treasuring his every word: “She kept all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Lk 2:19; cf. 2:51). The memories of Jesus, impressed upon her heart, were always with her, leading her to reflect on the various moments of her life at her Son's side. In a way those memories were to be the “rosary” which she recited uninterruptedly throughout her earthly life." ...

"Christ is the supreme Teacher, the revealer and the one revealed. It is not just a question of learning what he taught but of “learning him”.  In this regard could we have any better teacher than Mary? ..."

Oratio Universalis (Universal Prayer) of Pope Clement XI (1649-1721)

Lord, I believe in Thee: increase my faith. I trust in Thee: strengthen my trust. I love Thee: let me love Thee more and more. I am sorry for my sins: deepen my sorrow.

I worship Thee as my first beginning, I long for Thee as my last end, I praise Thee as my constant helper, and call on Thee as my loving protector.

Guide me by Thy wisdom, correct me with Thy justice, comfort me with Thy mercy, protect me with Thy power.

I offer Thee, Lord, my thoughts; to be fixed on Thee; my words: to have Thee for their theme; my actions: to reflect my love for Thee; my sufferings: to be endured for Thy greater glory.

I want to do what Thou ask of me: in the way Thou ask, because Thou ask.

Lord, enlighten my understanding, strengthen my will, purify my heart, and make me holy.

Help me to repent of my past sins and to resist temptation in the future.

Help me to rise above my human weakness and to grow stronger as a Christian.

Let me love Thee, my Lord and my God, and see myself as I really am: a pilgrim in this world, a Christian called to respect and love all whose lives I touch, those in authority over me or those under my authority, my

friends and my enemies.

Help me to conquer anger with gentleness, greed by generosity, apathy by fervor. Help me to forget myself and reach out toward others.

Make me prudent in planning, courageous in taking risks. Make me patient in suffering, unassuming in prosperity.

Keep me, Lord, attentive at prayer, temperate in food and drink, diligent in my work, firm in my good intentions.

Let my conscience be clear, my conduct without fault, my speech blameless, my life well-ordered.

Put me on guard against my human weaknesses. Let me cherish Thy love for me, keep Thy law, and come at last to Thy salvation.

Teach me to realize that this world is passing, that my true future is happiness of heaven, that life on earth is short, and the life to come eternal.

Help me to prepare for death with a proper fear of judgment, but a greater trust in Thy goodness. Lead me safely through death to the endless joy of

heaven.

Though Christ our Lord. Amen.

TEN COMMANDMENTS

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH,  Exodus 20 2-17

http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  1. I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.]

You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  2. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.]

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula: 3. Remember to keep holy the LORD'S Day.]

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  4. Honor your father and your mother.]

You shall not kill.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  5. You shall not kill.]

You shall not commit adultery.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  6. You shall not commit adultery.]

You shall not steal.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  7. You shall not steal.]

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.]

You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife,

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.]

or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's.

[A Traditional Catechetical Formula:  10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods. ]

Prayer for Our Country

God our Father, Giver of life, we entrust the United States of America to Your loving care.

You are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Reclaim this land for Your glory and dwell among Your people.

Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our nation´s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind Your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing Your will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the "culture of death." Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.
